I wanted to make myself a nice little flat crossbody bag. I love colors, and since inspiration is everywhere, I took a look in my piles of remnants and scraps first.
Like I mentioned above, I love color, especially vibrant color combos such as this one. I decided on a deep wine shade of very soft lambskin and an orange coral leather. The soft cotton lining has both these colors plus a few more so it really brought the two together nicely for a great spring look.
Here is the final look.
I do like how easy it came together, and I’ll try to create a tutorial as I create the next one because of how I added the lining and fixed it to the seam of the actual bag.
It need a little tweaking, but practice makes perfect, right? I want to work on the edge contrast because top-stitching leather on a curve is really tricky. The zipper could be better in that its not completely centered, so some of the zipper tape is still showing.
The things I love about it though are plenty! I love the color combo, mixing an orange-y coral with a wine shade is very pretty, and screams Spring to me.
I love the fixed lining. its stitched securely to the shell of the bag so it wont budge, or shift when you’re putting things in or pulling them out.
I like the little tabs on the ends, but will widen them next time. I planned on making a crossbody strap, but I think I’ll just make a wristlet strap, and then also a strap that connects the tabs and anchors the foldover portion of the bag (if you can picture that 🙂
And, finally, I like the size. It’s a nice and large size when opened and can easily fit magazines and other books, but when folded over, it could still fit an ipad mini if you needed it to.
Overall, i can’t wait to make more!
